everything on stake for big successI watched great movie the other day – The Actors. British production. Now, how is that related to work from home, online business and stuff? This part, Michael Caine speaks, have to do with it:

-I’ll think you’ll agree that acting isn’t real. That’s because nothing is a stake. We’re just pretending that it is. Now, suppose that something was on stake, really at stake, like a life or death, or money. Well, my proposition is to blur the difference. -

Put something big on stake. That worked to many entrepreneurs. That was the key in business success. In internet business and working from home, too. I have met online lot of successful people who made real success and reached their goal after they quited offline job. Look, I don’t say to you “Go, quit your regularly job!” now. HTML or PHP pages for site?

If you decided to make new website, regardless you attend to make it or you will hire designer for that, here is the question you can ask yourself before start. Should you use HTML or PHP pages on site? I mean, what is better to have, index.html or index.html? Aboutus.html or aboutus.php? Both kind of pages look just the same in source code. Both can be viewed just the same in Notepad and Notepad++ editors where you can edit them and manipulate them. Some people think that HTML is better for SEO. That is not true. PHP pages can be only better for SEO purposes. If it’s used on right way.

To be more concrete, here are pros for both.

HTML pages pros

- In fact, I see only one advantage for HTML pages. If that can be an advantage. HTML pages are more common, more people are used to see them and heard more about HTML then PHP. So, less experience people in webdesign can prefer HTML pages just for that. They might be scared or have some hesitation about PHP pages on site.

PHP pages pros

- PHP pages can use “include function”. That’s function where you can make separate PHP file for menu, header, footer and other parts of website. Big websites offices

I bumped on photos of some big website’s offices on internet. That intrigated me and I searched a little bit more and this is what I have found. It’s interesting to see in what offices and in what conditions some major internet players works. To see websites and dotcom companies workplace.

Blip.tv – Something like Youtube, but Blip mostly target TV producers offer them to upload their video projects. I dono if this girl works on their website or she is just visiting her boyfriend. :)

Banner Rotator with admin panel free PHP script is simple to set up Banner rotator script with an Admin panel.
V1.0 free version rotates 3 banners on your webpage randomly.
On Admin panel you can upload banners, delete them, pick 3 of uploaded banners to rotate on page, set URL where banners will be linked to, change the URLs, admin banners in different ways. In Admin panel you can also see how rotator will look like on actual page.
If you have 2 banners to rotate, you can setup one of them twice so it will show-up 2 times more then other.

Replace default RSS on WP with FeedBurner

If you have a WordPress blog (or blog on some other platform) you probably already know about Feedburner RSS service, now owned by Google. It imports your default RSS feed, gives you new RSS feed URL you shall promote and you have big variety of features for your feed (statistics, e-mail subscriptions form and stats, chicklets, APIs, feed to HTML feature, …). In order to have all your subscribers in Feedburner stats you have to replace default RSS link with new Feedburner link. But what with RSS feed link integrated in your WP theme? There is small icon linked to your old default WP RSS feed placed in browser’s URL bar.

Here is a little tutorial about replacing that with your new Feedburner link.

First, in your WP theme files find header.php file. Open it with Notepad, or better with Notepad++ if you have that installed.
Find this line:

My first computer Commodore 116

Back in 1987, my parents bought me my first computer. It was Commodore 116. Rubber keyboard, only 16 kilobytes of RAM. That sounds funny these days but it was great technology then. Commodore 116 had new sound and video chipset offering a palette of 128 colors. Programming language was BASIC 3.5 and it had commands for sound and bitmapped graphics (320×200 pixels), as well as simple program tracing or debugging. Here is how it looks like:

Make a wireframe for freelancer

You decided to open a website. Found a freelancer to outsource that job and now you have to explain him how the site shall look like. About look, you always can find some sites you like and pass the links, but for showing what parts website shall have, where will buttons go, where the text area will be, where you would like to put images, for all that having wireframe is the best solution. You can draw the idea on paper, scan it, and send the image to freelancer. You also can make the concept in Word document. But here is one of most convenient solutions in my experience. Making a wire frame with some software made just for that.

I personally use WireMaster. It can be very time consuming. Add image placeholder, text field, header, button, all that you need on site just with one click. After that, it’s drag and drop system for placing it on site holder, dragging the wide, height, … When you make what you need, go to Generate Wireframe, and save the project that way in HTML. It will save the image of site wireframe but whole HTML, too, with site descriptions and additional descriptions (business rules) you entered while generating wireframe. With making just few examples you’ll get how it works and after, you will save much time in future. Yours and freelancer’s time, too. Dropbox moved and more

Dropbox

Just a short note first for those who are not familiar with Dropbox. It allows you to sync your files online and across your computers automatically. Dropbox backs up your files online without much trouble, in background. A copy of your files are stored on Dropbox’s secure servers. You can access them from any computer or mobile device.

Now, Dropbox site has moved from GetDropbox.com to Dropbox.com. Easier to remember and better for brand.

The Dropbox iPhone app is available now for free from their App Store. It’s now 3.0 compatible too. Also in the works is an update to the app that includes optional passcode locking, better handling of images and more.

And, Dropbox reached 3 million users now.

World’s Best Internet Banks for 2009

Global Finance presented its World’s Best Internet Bank Awards at an awards dinner in New York.

Global Finance’s World Best Internet Bank Awards are based on submissions from banks that wish to be considered. This year, 222 individual banks from around the world entered the competition. Representatives from Infosys Technologies Limited comprised the judging panel. Based on the judges’ evaluations, Global Finance’s editors made the fnal selections.

Winners were selected based on strength of strategy for attracting and servicing online customers, success in getting clients to use web offerings, growth of online customer base, breadth of products offered, evidence of tangible benefts gained from internet initiatives, and web site design and functionality. Sub-category winners were selected on the basis of relative strength of those products and services.
